What should you do when a roller shutter is jammed?

If a roller shutter jams, stop operating it immediately and do not force the belt, crank or motor. Check only visible signs without opening the box: a tilted curtain, slat outside a guide, obstruction or unusual noise. Isolate power if the motor continues straining or becomes warm, then contact a specialist.

Release the control, clear people and objects from the opening and avoid repeated cycles. On a motorised shutter, isolate the relevant circuit if the motor hums, strains or produces an unusual smell.
Observe without dismantling
Look for a tilted curtain, protruding slat, blocked guides or a shutter that stops at the same point. Note whether the fault occurs while opening, closing or in both directions.
What to avoid
Do not open a difficult box, pull the curtain or adjust a powered motor. Components may be heavy or under load, and improvised handling can worsen damage.
Electrical or mechanical fault
